Practicing Quilting

I had a good idea to make my family members potholders for Christmas so that I could practice quilting now. I'd love to do some stipling on the 2 quilt tops that I have finished, but I don't want to just jump in there and do it! So I got a few potholders ready and started. Then I tore out the quilting...twice. I then thought it looked okay, so I tried to bind it...and tore it out once! What a pain these little things ended up being. I haven't even finished the first one I started. I thought it was such a good idea and now I can't stand to look at these tiny time-consumers (besides the fact that I think they look kind of funny)!!

I know how you feel! I made some potholders for the first time recently, and learned after the first square one to round off the corners with an embroidery hoop as a guide to avoid mitering a million corners! So much better : )It is a great way to practice quilting, isn't it? Yours look great, keep at it! I still have a lot more to make...

Don't stop! Potholders are wonderful for quilting practice. Your family won't care that they aren't perfect. Instead of binding, try a satin stitch (close zig-zag). Hope you aren't using a poly batting inside.

well they are handmade which is special and everytime they use them they will think of you.

I did potholders and swore I'd never ever do them again. Glad I'm not the only one!!
